Clara Crocodilo
Camila Kater was invited by Selo Sesc (Projeto Relicário) to create, write, direct and animate alongside the director, animator and editor Samuel Mariani, the animated video clip teaser for the music “Clara Crocodilo” (recorded live in 1980 at Sesc) by the famous Brazilian musician Arrigo Barnabé.
The creative process included a lot of research about who women were portraid by the media during the 80’s, cinema marginal aesthetics. Camila and Samuel dove into an experimentation mode and went for a shooting day in Sao Paulo’s most iconic buildings and places (Edifício Itália, Copan, Minhocão). The artist Rodrigo Faustini printed them in thermo sensitive paper afterwards and Camila and Samuel made direct animation interventions with oil, oil paint, alcohol and pen afterwards.
Samuel also bought super 8, 16mm and 35 mm’s found footage at flea markets, and also made direct animation on the film’s strips. Camila make a collage animation using old magazines from articles from the 80’s that had misogenistic approaches.
