Workshops

I’ve been conducting animation workshops in Brazil and abroad for more than 10 years. To be in touch with people from other backgrounds and cultures is very inspiring to me and has become part of my artistic practice. I usually choose to work on a subject that is related to my newest animation project and that resonates with other people. During the workshops, I introduce the use of experimental techiques usually exploring mixed media and materials, promoting an accessible approach to animation. I also collaborate with other artists such as Samuel Mariani (animator and editor) and Kathleen Costa (sound designer) in the Animated Documentary course.

If you run a festival, a cultural institution or an animation course, I would love to share my animation experience and philosophy with your public. Please write to me.

Please find bellow information about the past workshops I’ve offered:

Animated Documentary: animator as the subject

(12 – 15h/ 3 – 4 days)

Where and when this workshop took place:

  • October 2025: LEVANTE Festival de Curtas-Metragens de Pelotas. Peloras, RS, Brazil.
  • June 2025: SMOF Stop Motion Our Fest. Buenos Aires, Argentina.
  • February 2025: Sesc Avenida Paulista. São Paulo, SP, Brazil.
  • October 2024: Sesc Pinheiros. São Paulo, Brazil.
  • April 2022: MONSTRA – Lisbon Animation Festival. Lisbon, Portugal.
  • March 2021 – Animac Lleida. Lleida, Spain.

In this 12h workshop, divided in 3 days, we contextualize the animated documentary format with independent short film references and promote a group discussion about “fear”. This topic is related to my new film project, “The Lord be with you”. The participants (8 to 15) divide themselves in groups, according to their shared stories about fear, and collectively create 3 short films in which participants act both as protagonists, sharing personal stories, and as animators, animating their own fears with different animation techniques (stop-motion with clay and sand, painting on glass, and 2D on paper with charcoal and watercolor). The group discussion in the first day is also a good way of creating bond between the participants.

Alchemy of materials: mixed and experimental techniques in animation

4 – 8h/ 1 – 2 days

Where and when this workshop took place:

  • March 2025: Centro de Formação em Cinema de Animação Stop Motion, Sao Carlos, SP, Brazil (8h).
  • May 2023: Bauhaus University, Weimar, Germany. (8h)

In this workshop, we set up 5 different animation techniques stations. I introduce the use of several materials in animation by showing experiments I’ve made and independent short films. There is an exercise where the participants are divided into groups and this groups are assigned to one of the animation techniques stations. In order to release ourselfs from creative block and embrace a more experimental and intuitive practice, we ask the groups to rotate stations and continue what the previous group started, so everyone can have a chance to animate with the different techniques that are available. It’s always very impressive what people can create when they are not worried about a especific result and they let themselves just animate without great expectations.
